World games -first Croatian victories
Croatian
men’s beach handball selection achieved
a pretty good result on the first day of the World Games. In the first two games
our guys recorded two victories, which have fought for a better starting position
before quarterfinal games.
Pakistan was the first team against our team was played. Asian champions and
one of the best teams which are not from Europe showed us their unusual style (central
player was a specialist- usual tactic is to play with specialist on the middle of
the court –that is the way most teams play). In accordance with the strength of
opponents, as well as poor realization in the first set, the Croats could hardly
get a favorable result, and are literally in the last seconds turned the result
with two points goal, hit by young
and perspective central player Drago
Vojnović.
The second period was in accordance
with the reputation of the world and European champions
and Croats
gained an advantage at the start slightly
and maintained until the end of the set.
As in any competition, the first game is very unique, such as adaptation to the
terrain and opponents. Little nervous
entering resulted with missing a few
clean chances which gives the oportunity
to the opponent for the realization
of benefits. But after we consolidate and release the brakes
we finally secured the first two points-said
Davor Rokavec, fitness trainer and also a player in the Croatian beach handball
selection.
Afternoon matches against other Asian representatives Thailand led to
slight Croatian victory. Good entry
in both sets of our selection acquired
a great advantage and Croats won this game without fatigue
recorded two extra points. Tomorrow
will our selection play for first place in the group fighting the Turkish national
team, then we will know the name of the opponent with whom we will fight for the
semi-finals of this very qualitativecompetition
(as far as the strength of competition, with world and European World Cup games
are “Sacred Trinity in beach handball.)
Our women’s selection is also now played the first two games at the world games,
but unlike the male counterpart, the were unluckily defeated by the selection of
Italy, the current European champion (one of which also lost in the semifinals of
the European Championships held in less than two weeks in
Norwegian Larvik). History again repeated,
and the girls again lost after shoot out with 2-1 result.
With afternoon match against Japan, girls will try to catch the rhythm of victory
and they will try to collect two points against the girls from “the land of the
rising sun.”
It will also be a possability to capture
second place in the group which would facilitate their opponent in the quarterfinals.
